Valerie sees photography as a way to further develop a thought, an idea or an emotion. She uses the camera to explore cultural differences, social and environmental issues and to better understand the world we inhabit. Photographs are one of her favorite forms of art as well as documentation. They serve to capture a space, a memory, a feeling - along this time continuum.
Sauers is a freelance photographer who shoots everything from portraits to international adventure. She received a BFA from the Rochester Institute of Technology. She assists National Geographic photographer Erika Larsen and leads trips for National Geographic Student Expeditions.
